A growing number of people are signing a petition to boycott Target because of its bathroom policies.

Target's policy, as reiterated on their website last week, says you can use the bathroom of the sex you identify with. In other words, if you were born male, but identify with being a female, you can use the women's restroom.

"As a company that firmly stands behind what it means to offer our team an inclusive place to work--and our customers an inclusive place to shop--we continue to believe this is the right thing for Target," said company spokeswoman Molly Snyder.

But those who are signing the petition disagree with the policy.

According to the American Family Association, the conservative group sponsoring the petition,
Target's policy, "endangers women and children by allowing men to frequent women's facilities."

The group says sexual violence against women will increase as a result.

Transgender advocates say federal law currently allows them to use the bathroom of their choice, and there has been no increase in violence.

Still, the AFA says a possible solution is for Target to have a private bathroom for either sex.

Target has responded by saying their stores already have family bathrooms, which are for use by either sex.
