Mother of baby Chance commits suicide in Sarasota jail

SARASOTA (FOX 13) - The mother of baby Chance Walsh, who was killed by his parents in 2015, committed suicide at the Sarasota County Jail early Saturday morning.

Jail staff found Kristen Bury unresponsive around 1 a.m. and started life-saving measures. She was pronounced dead at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Bury's death is being investigated as a suicide. Officials have not released specific details about the death.

Baby Chance was reported missing in September of 2015, and his body was found in October.

Bury and her husband, Joseph Walsh, told deputies several stories, including that Chance was killed in a car crash in South Carolina, and another that he was dropped off with a woman in Georgia. Both were found to be untrue.

Joseph Walsh is still awaiting trial in connection with baby Chance's death. Bury was expected to testify against him as part of her plea deal.
