Less than a week after her son was mowed down by a driver who then sped away, Roberta Obry has a message for whoever killed her son: Come forward.

Her 19-year-old son, Zachary Obry was hit and killed as he crossed U.S. 41, at Short Drive, Sunday in Venice. The teen had just moved to Venice two weeks ago.

Wednesday night, friends and family held a vigil in Zachary’s memory. As candles flickered in the darkness and people with tearful faces paid their respects, Roberta was focused on getting answers.

"Just couldn't go through my mind that something like this was going to happen," Roberta said. "You have that conscience. Come forward, please. We need to know. We need this."

On Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol released a description of the car that may have hit Zachary.

It’s described as a dark red, 2000 to 2005, Ford Expedition, which they believe will have front-end damage.

"You know, we really need to get this out there and find who this is [and] what happened,” Roberta said.

In the meantime, the community is showing this single mother of four that she is not alone.

“My heart breaks for her,” family friend John Knight said. "Right away, when you met him you knew there was something special."

Obry’s family and friends are hoping their love and unity will help them heal.

Zachary's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
