Motorcyclist dies in St. Pete crash

- A motorcyclist has passed away following a traffic accident in St. Petersburg.

On Monday morning around 6:45 a.m. a truck collided with the motorcycle on 16th Street North between 3rd and 4th Avenue North. St. Petersburg police say the driver, a 53-year-old, was traveling nortbound on 16th Street North in a blue 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, while Willie Bennett, Jr., also 53 years old, was traveling southbound.

The Chevrolet turned left from 16th Street North onto 3rd Avenue North, and struck the victim, who was thrown from the motorcycle.

Bennett died at the scene, police say. They do not believe impairment was a factor and the driver remained on scene.

No other details have been provided, including whether there would be any charges filed. Police say they are still investigating.
