Murder victim's car missing after body found

The vehicle of a murdered man is missing and Tampa police believe it could lead to information about his death.

James Simmons, Jr., 48, was found dead at his E. Curtis Street home Monday night. His mother discovered his body.

Police stayed tight-lipped about the manner of death, or if they have any suspects in mind. However, they say one critical element of the crime scene is missing: the victim's car.

"The person who was killed, his car is missing. So we've put out a description of the car. We're hoping someone from the public can let us know if they see the car because we think that may let us know what happened here," Tampa Police's Steve Hegarty said Tuesday.

The vehicle is a blue 2005 Chevy Cobalt with Florida tag X981JA.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-TIPS.
