Authorities say a man was fatally shot during a gathering in Clearwater late Saturday night.

The shooting happened when a large crowd was gathered near the intersection of Howard Street and Tioga Avenue shortly before midnight. Police said the group was holding a memorial for Rajshah "Red" Williams, who was killed in an ATV crash in 2007. His family has held an anual celebration party to mark Williams birthday ever since the crash that took the 20-year-old's life.

Clearwater police estimate around 500 people were at the party when shots rang out. Neighbors say they aren't surprised the annual memorial party ended in violence.

"Last night if someone didn't get shot, someone gets beat up. Something always happens," said Tammy Worthman, who says she often calls Clearwater Police about drug-related activity and fights in her neighborhood.

According to police, 27-year-old Markeen Prim was the victim of Saturday's shooting. He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he died. Prim, a father of four, has a long history of drug-related arrests dating back to 2007.

Clearwater police are actively investigating the shooting. No suspect information has been released. Anyone with information is asked to give them a call.
