No charges yet in crash that killed 2-year-old

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is still trying to figure out what led up to a crash that killed 2-year-old Jowell Velasquez and sent his mom, Joshlynn Lopez, to the hospital in critical condition.

A box truck hit their car from behind on northbound Rockridge Road at J.E.H. Road in Lakeland.

The driver of the truck, Jose Martinez, has not been charged.  Investigators say he was not speeding or impaired. They are looking into whether he was possibly distracted.

The crash may have been caused by mechanical failure as well.
