North Port police seek thief in a cat sweatshirt

- North Port police are searching for a purse snatcher wearing a particularly unique piece of clothing that someone is likely to recognize.

Police said the suspect stole a handbag from inside a vehicle on Racetrack Rd. Oct. 19th. The suspect got away with money and later used the victim's credit card, police said.

The suspect was caught by surveillance cameras wearing white sunglasses and a red sweatshirt with an enormous white cat on the front. North Port police posted the photos on the department's Facebook page and say they believe someone has to recognize it. "Here is another photo of the suspect who appears to be wearing a cat sweatshirt...Yes, a cat sweatshirt. Somebody recognizes this cat sweatshirt....a cat sweatshirt," the post said.

Police said two people were in the getaway car described as a silver four door Honda Civic with a bike rack on the back.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Miguel Segura: 941-429-7342.
