North Port teen struck by car

- A 15-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after she was hit by a car.

North Port police said it happened shortly after 7 a.m. near Ponce De Leon and Hornbuckle Boulevards.

North Port Fire Rescue units responded to find the teen had been struck by the mirror of a passing car and injured her head.

Officials initially tried to have Bayflite transport her to a local hospital, but after learning they were grounded due to the weather, they had an ambulance transport her there.

No additional information was released at the time.
