WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (FOX 13) - Seven people were arrested after attacking police officers who were trying to break up a fight in Winter Haven, Florida.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, officers were called to 120 Ave R NW, where 20 to 30 people were crowding around a fight between two people.
Police said the responding four officers were met with aggression.
"They were pushed, or kicked or spit on, we had four officers that were basically assaulted," said Jamie Brown, a spokeswoman for the department.
A total of seven people were arrested, five of which are facing extra charges for attacking the officers.
Derrick Munson, 26, of Winter Haven, faces charges of felony battery on law enforcement officers, resisting officer without violence. Officers said Munson pulled away from officers and then spit in the face of an officer as he was being placed inside of a patrol vehicle.
Marquarius Jasper, 18, of Auburndale, faces charges of felony battery on law enforcement officers and felony resisting officer with violence. Officers say Jasper ran up behind an officer and pushed him while the officer was trying to break up the fight, and then tried to flee. He was apprehended after a stun gun was deployed.
Eddie Munson, 52, of Lakeland, faces charges of resisting officer without violence. Officers say Munson ignored numerous verbal commands to step back and tried to separate officers from performing their duties. Munson was sprayed with pepper spray and became compliant.
Latoya Munson, 37, of Lakeland, faces charges of felony battery on law enforcement officers and resisting officer without violence. Officers say Munson grabbed an officer’s arm as he was placing another subject under arrest and then tried to leave the scene. She was apprehended and continued to resist officers as she was being placed under arrest.
Terrance Miller, 33, of Winter Haven, faces a charge of felony battery on law enforcement officer. Officers say Miller pushed an officer multiple times to get the officer away from another subject who was being arrested.
Shantee Walden, 39, of Winter Haven, faces a charge of resisting arrest without violence. Officers say Walden interfered with an officer as an arrestee was being placed inside of a patrol vehicle. They say Walden tried twice to push officers away and pull the arrestee out of the patrol car.
A 16-year-old faces charges of felony battery on law enforcement officers and felony resisting an officer with violence. Officers say the juvenile was interfering with officers as they were trying to gain control over the crowd. They say he pushed officers multiple times and refused to obey verbal commands.
Police said the officers were not seriously hurt and neither were any of the people arrested. The cause of the fight has not been determined.
