TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - If you've thought about welcoming a new four-legged friend to your family, this weekend may be the perfect opportunity.
Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center said is currently at 112 percent capacity with 276 dogs. It's the county's only open admissions shelter, which means it accepts all dogs and cats regardless of age, weight, breed or health.
Because the shelter has been at or near its capacity for dogs for several weeks, shelter officials decided to waive all fees for all "ready-to-go" dogs from Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17.
The move is "an effort to lower the stubbornly high population of dogs" at the shelter, staff said.
The Pet Resource Center is located at 440 N Falkenburg Road, and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
