Pinellas deputy fired after arrest in fatal DUI crash

A 20-year-old woman died when an off-duty Pinellas County deputy hit the motorcycle on which she was a passenger, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deputy, Timothy Vaughan, of Palmetto, was fired Saturday morning and now faces DUI manslaughter charges related to the crash.

The crash happened Friday night near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 41 North and 37th St. Ct. East in Manatee County.

FHP troopers said Vaughan's Kia Sportage veered into the left lane, hitting a motorcycle, which then got pushed into another motorcycle.

The female passenger on board one of the bikes, 20-year-old Alexandria Marler, was thrown off the bike and into the street before troopers say Vaughan ran her over.  She died from her injuries.

No one else was seriously hurt.  Vaughan is charged with DUI Manslaughter, DUI Property Damage, DUI Personal Injury and Careless Driving.
