PORT RICHEY, Fla. (FOX 13) - A Pasco County man was arrested for intentionally burning a one-year-old boy, officials said.
Detective with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred on October 16, 2018, and the investigation led to the arrest of 21-year-old Anthony Brown on Thursday.
According to Brown’s affidavit, he was alone when he was supervising the child. On that day, the victim had burns on his lower back, left ear and chin. Brown called his girlfriend and apologized, saying there was an accident, officials said. He explained the child fell while walking outside and the hot asphalt burned him.
On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office “received an intake report with allegations,” relating to the injuries from last year, according to Brown’s arrest report. Those allegations also said there were bruises to his legs. Detectives questioned him, and they said he told the original story of the child falling on asphalt.
When they asked further questions, Brown said the child had scratches from the fall, and was dirty, according to detectives. Brown placed the child in the bath tub and believed the hot water caused the burns, they said.
He couldn’t explain the location of the burns or if they could be connected to the hot bath water, detectives said. Medical staff said the burns actually appeared to be “contact burns” that were intentionally inflected on the victim. Officials said the burns were not consistent with Brown’s story.
The burns were also in different stages of healing. Brown was arrested for aggravated child abuse.
