Pasco sheriff: Suspect bites deputy, K9 bites suspect

- Body-worn camera video from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office shows the dramatic takedown of a suspect who fled a traffic stop Wednesday.

Deputies say they initially tried to pull the suspect over after "observing suspected drug activity," but the man took off.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said after 33-year-old Dwayne Sheehan fled, he hit a tree and a pole before driving directly at a deputy in his patrol vehicle. He then hit another vehicle and came to a stop.

When deputies tried to arrest Sheehan, they said he resisted, biting a deputy on the forearm. That's when deputies released K9 Chris, whose bit subdued Sheehan so he could be detained.

The person in the vehicle hit by Sheehan was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with neck and back pain.

Sheehan was also taken to the hospital for medical clearance.

Deputies say they found cocaine and meth on Sheehan.

He was a little banged up for his mugshot - evidence of why Pasco deputies say if you bite them, they'll bite back harder.

"He fled for a reason, which is why he had drugs on him when he was finally arrested." Pasco County Sheriff's Office Community Relations Director Kevin Doll said.

Sheehan faces charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and aggravated fleeing to elude.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged Sheehan with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, possession of cocaine, three counts of reckless driving with property damage, and driving with a suspended or restricted license.
