Pedestrians run over after church in Spring Hill

Three people are suffering serious injuries after a car ran over a group of pedestrians following a church service in Spring Hill Sunday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver, 91-year-old Rafael Acevedo-Alers, was attempting to back up when he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake pedal. The mistake caused his car to reverse, running over three pedestrians standing under a nearby tree, troopers said.

The pedestrians were identified as 25-year-old Elba Guadalupe, 4-year-old Jeffrey Mojica, and 68-year-old Jose Cruz.

The car ran over the pedestrians, struck another vehicle, and came to a rest after striking a building.

The driver of the car and two of the pedestrians, Guadalupe and Cruz, are listed as having "incapacitating" injuries and were transported to Oak Hill Hospital.

It is unclear at this time whether the 4-year-old child suffered any injuries.
