Pinellas County deputy's cruiser T-boned by impaired driver, officials say

- A driver, who was possibly driving while intoxicated, slammed into a Pinellas County deputy’s cruiser, officials said.

Investigators with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred just after midnight on Wednesday at the intersection of 37th Street South and 11th Avenue South. Deputy Shawn Livernois was on-duty and traveling north on 37th Street in his unmarked vehicle. Around the same time, 34-year-old Derrick Taylor was heading west on 11th Avenue in his 2013 Nissan Altima.

Deputies said Taylor didn’t stop at the intersection’s stop sign, and T-boned Deputy Livernois’ car. Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said Taylor showed signs of impairment, and was arrested on a DUI charge. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt and failing to stop at a stop sign.
