Police impersonators enter Temple Terrace home

- A man and woman dressed to look like Temple Terrace police gained access to a home, claiming the resident was a victim of identity theft.

The Temple Terrace Police Department said the pair came to the victim's Linda Avenue home on December 16 around 3 p.m. They knocked on the victim's door and, when she answered, said the woman was a victim of identity theft.

The victim allowed the impersonators inside, but what they wanted was unclear.

Neighbor Mike Donohue told FOX13 the woman who the impersonators targeted was shaken and embarrassed by the incident. Donohue said it was unnerving to know the impersonators have not been identified. He himself recalls a break in several years ago and understands his neighbor's fear.

"First you're angry, and then you feel kind of violated that someone would come into your house, and that's not fair. It shouldn't happen," Donohue said.

Investigators said the suspects did not take anything from the home or injure the victim.

"That's terrible that people would do something like that. I don't know what's come into this world. I see a lot of stuff on TV and I just can't believe what people do," said neighbor Virginia Cumbra.

The first suspect was described as a white female in her 40s, with dark hair and brown eyes. She was 5'4" tall and weighed around 110 pounds. She wore a dark uniform with a silver badge, gun belt and firearm.

The second suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, with dark hair. He was 5'10" tall and weighed around 190 pounds. He was wearing a dark uniform.

Temple Terrace police hope someone with information about the impostors, or who has had a similar encounter, will call the department at (813) 989-7110.

Law enforcement warned to be cautious, and if there is any question about the legitimacy of an officer; contact police right away.
