Police look for man present when 3-year-old was shot in Tampa

- A 3-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot inside an apartment in North Tampa Monday night.

It happened just before 9 at the Courtyard On the River Apartments.

Police are now looking for a young man who may have been in the room with the child when it happened.

"We were told that somebody else may have been in the room at the time. We're not sure, but he may have left and taken the weapon with him," said Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty.

He said police may know who he is and would like to talk to him. There were no other witnesses to the shooting.

"We'd like to see what he knows about what happened," said Hegarty.

The boy was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. His family is keeping his condition private.

However, police say the child is expected to recover.
