Former officer involved in apparent murder, suicide

- St. Petersburg police said one of two people found dead in a home Friday night was a veteran of the St. Petersburg Police Department. The other was his wife.

The deceased couple was found at a home on 35th Avenue North around 11 p.m.

Gary Stempinski, 69, and his 72-year-old wife, Marie were found with gunshot wounds. Police think Gary shot and killed his wife, and then took his own life with the same handgun.

Gary Stempinski was with the St. Petersburg Police Department for many years before becoming a financial advisor with Raymond James, according to the company's website
