Police investigating early morning shooting that left 1 dead

The Tampa Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man dead early Sunday morning.


Police say the incident started as a verbal altercation in the 900 block of East Fowler just after 3:30 a.m. 22-year-old Jontreeal Gainous and 3 others were walking away after the altercation when the people they were arguing with opened fire.


Gainous was shot during the altercation and died from his injuries. A second victim was also shot but is expected to recover.


There have been no arrests in the case.
