Police: Man shot at AMVETS post in Zephyrhills

- Police in Zephyrhills said a man was shot at an American Veterans post Friday night.

According to police, the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at the AMVETS Post 550 on Airport Road. 

Detectives said the victim, who hasn't been publicly identified, was shot in the back of the head. The victim was airlifted to Lakeland Regional Hospital and is in stable condition.

The suspect, 75-year-old Thomas Papineau, was taken into custody at the scene.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting. A calendar posted on the organization's Facebook page shows there was a fish fry and live music at the location Friday evening.
