Two people are in custody in St. Pete for allegedly targeting and stealing from elderly victims.

One of those victims is Laura Rounds' 95-year-old grandmother.

“They not only stole her purse, they stole her piece of mind. It's going to take a while for her to recover,” Rounds said.

A neighbor’s home surveillance video captured part of the crime.

“She ran up on my grandmother's driver’s side door and when she opened the door she grabbed her purse and ran off down the road,” Rounds said.

Police say she was followed as she left the grocery store just a few minutes from her home.

A couple of days later, police say the same thing happened to another unsuspecting 90-year-old.

Friday, St. Pete police announced they had made two arrests, saying they caught 31-year-old Shagontha Legrand and 21-year-old raven Mitchell red-handed as they tried stealing another purse from an SUV in a Walgreens parking lot.

“I’m very thankful they’re off the street and I’m extremely thankful for the efforts of the community and the St. Pete Police Department,” Rounds said.

Both suspects face multiple felony charges.
