Officers say a Venice man lit his car on fire, then tried to report it as stolen to police.

The North Port Police Department and the State Fire Marshal arrested 76-year-old Finis Ray Jordan.

On Saturday, police say Jordan reported his 2015 Chrysler 200 stolen to NPPD. After some investigation, police figured out the car had not been stolen.

Jordan later admitted to officers he simply didn't like the car and lit it on fire in the woods in Charlotte County.

Jordan faces two felonies: arson, and burn with intent to defraud an insurer. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of making a false report.
