Port Tampa Bay welcomes large vessel

- Port Tampa Bay is welcoming the maiden voyage of a supply vessel that will be used to bring materials to support development in the region.

Vulcan Materials, the owner of the Ireland, says it’s one of the largest and most advanced ships of its kind.

Residents who came to the port to welcome the vessel hope that this is a start of an economic boom.

“Everybody in Tampa sees the expansion that’s going on,” said Paul Anderson, president and CEO of Port Tampa Bay. “This is part of that, it represents jobs to this community and continued growth in this region and across our state.”

The ship will make regular visits to Tampa with limestone from Mexico.
