Postal workers busy to make holiday shipping rush

The countdown to Christmas is ticking, which means the deadline for holiday shipping is fast approaching.

Several USPS offices across the country opened on Sunday to accommodate the holiday rush. A line of drivers waited to drop cards in the exterior mailbox at a post office off North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa in order to beat the 10 a.m. cutoff for pick up.

"I wait until the last minute. I'm a last minute person," said Rekki Falsone, who walked nearly one mile with a flat tire on her bike to make it to the post office before the deadline. Falsone was mailing a Christmas card to her sister in North Carolina.

While several shipping deadlines have already passed, customers can still send letters and packages in time for Christmas Eve, December 24, if they're willing to pay a little extra.

The remaining holiday shipping deadlines are as follows:

USPS:

Monday, Dec. 21 - Priority Mail

Wednesday, Dec. 23 - Priority Mail Express

UPS:

Tuesday, Dec. 22 - Last day to ship all UPS 2nd Day Air packages

Wednesday, Dec. 23 - Last day to ship all UPS Next Day Air packages

FedEx:

Tuesday, Dec. 22 - Second Day Air

Wednesday, Dec. 23 - Next Day Air

All three agencies will be closed on Christmas Day.
