Rescued Arkansas pups get new lives in Tampa
TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Humane Society of Tampa Bay just opened its doors to 14 dogs who were among hundreds rescued from an alleged Arkansas puppy mill.
Staff at the Humane Society spent the day evaluating the nearly 300 dogs who were reportedly found living in deplorable conditions and suffering from untreated medical issues.
The Arkansas property owner surrendered the dogs and is facing animal cruelty charges.
The Humane Society says some of the dogs they took in spent their lives in cages, forced to breed for puppies that sell for hundreds of dollars.
"Please don't buy puppies from pet stores because you're just telling them that it's OK to keep doing that and keep their little lives like they don't matter. But they do," insisted Pam Backer, the director of shelter operations. "It's not fair that she's had to spend eight years just giving birth."
Now, those dogs will get the medical care they need and be spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they go up for adoption.
