Rescuers battle bees after SUV crashes into hives

First responders in North Port faced an unusual scene Tuesday afternoon.  They were sent to a crash scene along Interstate 75, but when they got there, they heard a lot of buzzing.

Apparently, an SUV had plowed through a fence just north of Kings Highway and slammed into a tree on a nearby farm.  In the process, the vehicle hit several boxes of beehives.

“This caused huge issues with getting to the vehicle, as there were thousands of bees swarming the area,” North Port police wrote.

Rescuers had to use a high-pressure foam spray to clear the bees long enough to get the two people out of the SUV. Both were said to be OK.
