Sarasota County teacher killed in murder-suicide

A North Port High School English teacher was killed Friday night after deputies say her estranged husband shot her in an apparent murder-suicide.

Antoinette Gordon was killed in a McDonald's parking lot in Port Charlotte at the hands of her husband Hugh Gordon, deputies say.

Investigators say the Gordons were separated. They met at a McDonald's on Tamiami Trail to arrange a custody swap of their son when deputies say Hugh Gordon shot his wife.

"I saw just cops everywhere with their guns out and when I looked over at McDonald's, there was like 10 of them like behind a shield," said witness Danielle Rafferty.

According to authorities the Gordons' son witnessed the shooting. He was not hurt and is being taken care of, deputies say.

Gordon taught at North Port High School, where former students shared memories on social media through the weekend.

Detectives are still attempting to determine a motive.
