Sarasota man fires shotgun at victim he did not know, deputies say

A Sarasota man was arrested after firing his shotgun at a neighbor, deputies say.

According to the Sarasota county Sheriff’s Office, they responded to an apartment complex at 4081 Maceachen Boulevard around 3 a.m. Sunday. Deputies say the victim dialed 911 to report 57-year-old Charles Herr, saying he fired four rounds at him while he was riding his bicycle in the neighborhood.

Deputies said they were directed to Herr’s apartment unit and found four shotgun rounds, as well as a shattered residential sliding glass door with projectiles inside the home and on the patio. They also found bullet holes from a shot gun and a second unknown firearm.

The victim and Herr do not know each other, deputies say. After executing a search warrant, detectives said they found several firearms and ammunition.

Herr was arrested on several charges including aggravated assault with a weapon. It’s unclear the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
