All rescued after numerous boats overturn off Pier 60

Several people were rescued and said to be safe Tuesday afternoon, after their sailboats capsized during high winds off Clearwater Beach.

The boats were part of a sailboat race near Pier 60. Coast Guard and local boaters helped rescue people tossed into the water.

Clearwater Public Safety was also involved with the rescue, bringing a helicopter and boats to help.

The capsized boats were one mile west of Clearwater Pass. Gale force winds made Gulf waters extremely rough Tuesday.
