Several events planned to protest Stand Your Ground law

Organizers from across the country have planned several events to take place in Clearwater to protest last month’s shooting of Markeis McGlockton. McGlockton was shot after a dispute over a parking space, he died a short time later. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri chose not to charge the shooter, 47-year-old Michael Drejka, citing Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law.

Al Sharpton will be joined by attorney Ben Crump during a rally at St. John Primitive Baptist Church at 4:00 p.m. In addition to honoring the memory of McGlockton, Sharpton is expected to call on elected officials to end Stand Your Ground.

At the same time, members McGlockton’s family, in addition to several national organizations, have planned a march to bring attention to the shooting and to call on State Attorney Bernie McCabe to bring charges against Drejka.
