Suspected burglar killed during Tampa home invasion

- A suspected burglar was apparently shot and killed by an elderly homeowner's son Tuesday, police said. 

The Tampa Police Department said it happened around 12:45 p.m. at a home on N. Central Ave.

Officers said the situation appeared to be a home invasion. Christopher Solomon lives at the home. He told officers her heard what sounded like someone trying to break into the back door.

Solomon said he armed himself with a gun and went downstairs where he discovered a stranger in the kitchen.

Solomon told Tampa police officers he was afraid for his life and fired several shots at the suspect, an adult male. 

The woman who owns the home Solomon's mother, was visibly shaken up outside her home when she arrived back. A neighbor told FOX 13 News, on her behalf, she was glad her son was not hurt and that her grandchildren were not home at the time. 

The suspected intruder's identity was not being released pending notification of his next of kin. 

Solomon was arrested or charged in the shooting. Police said the facts will be sent to the State Attorney's Office for review, which is procedure in this kind of case.
