Three dogs suffering from multiple ailments were apparently thrown from a moving vehicle near Palm River Road and Papaya Drive over the weekend.

The pups are getting much-needed care from the folks at Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Dog Rescue, but officials hope to find out who is behind neglecting and dumping the dogs.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says a report was filed over the weekend about three dogs being thrown from a moving vehicle in Tampa.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Dog Rescue says it took in the dogs from the person who witnessed the dogs being thrown out.

"They are in heartbreaking condition as a result of extreme neglect," the rescue's executive director, Heather Downing said. "They all have severe mange and are almost bald, have skin infections, are underweight, and one needs surgery on both eyes."

Downing said the dogs also have evidence of chemical burns on their skin, "likely living in their own urine."

FOX 13 News has reached out to Hillsborough County Animal Services for information on a suspect vehicle description. This story will be updated when the information becomes available.
