Skeet and trap shooters take aim at cancer

Skeet and trap shooters over the weekend took aim at a target we'd all like to eliminate: breast cancer.

It happened during the Silver Dollar Shoot for the Cure event at Silver Dollar Golf and Trap Resort Sunday.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds are going to Florida Hospital to give free breast cancer screenings and biopsies to women who don't have health insurance.

About 180 shooters took part, and everything – from the shotgun shells to the clay targets -was pink for breast cancer awareness.

“We've got residents here at Silver Dollar that are breast cancer survivors, and this year we have got about a 20 percent increase over last year's tournament,” said Bill Miller, Manager of Silver Dollar Shooter’s Club. “And we look forward to bigger and better ones down the road."

Winning teams were presented with pink target plaques.

In its 6th year, the goal was to raise $15,000.
