South Tampa child porn suspect appears in court

- A 72-year-old Tampa man has been ordered to stay far, far away from children, that is, if he gets out of jail.

Johnny Boromei was caught during an undercover, Internet sting. He's accused of possessing and trading child pornography from his South Tampa home.

Boromei faces 28 counts related to child pornography, but this is not the first time he's been in trouble.

At one time, he faced lewd and lascivious charges.

"He was a past psychotherapist. He had a past sexual relationship with an adult patient of his where the charges were ultimately dismissed," his attorney, Joseph Alvarez explained Wednesday.

The charges were dropped when he agreed to treatment, but the new charges may be harder to overcome.

Meanwhile, neighbors said they'd prefer Boromei stay away.

Brian Branigan told FOX 13 News he watched police invade his quiet neighborhood during the arrest.

"One police vehicle catches my attention in this neighborhood, and there were about eight - and two forensic unit vans," Branigan explained.

Bromei's attorney promised a judge Wednesday, he was not a flight risk.

"Mr. Beromi is 72-year old man, masters educated, substantial ties to the community," Alvarez explained of his client.

Bond was set at $210,000.
