South Tampa kidnapping suspect held on no bond

The suspect charged with kidnapping and robbing a woman in south Tampa was denied bond on Sunday.

Johnathan Rogers, 32, is accused of attacking the victim as she unlocked her car on South Howard Avenue during the early morning hours of December 3.

Police said the woman became unconscious when she was struck in the head, and Rogers then put the victim in her own car. According to investigators, Rogers drove the vehicle before stealing the woman's valuables and leaving her in the car.

Rogers is charged with robbery and kidnapping. He was given no bond during a first court appearance Sunday morning.

According to state records, Rogers was released from prison in 2015 after being incarcerated for more than eight years. He was serving time for drug-related charges.
