Spice bust: 525 pounds of drug seized in Hillsborough Co.

- More than 500 pounds of the drug called spice has been seized by Hillsborough County deputes.

The bust represents the largest of its kind in the history of the Hillsborough County Sheriffs' Office.

Sheriff Chad Chronister says investigators seized 525 pounds of the synthetic marijuana, which has a street value of over $500,000, from an operation that "ran like a commercial factory," the sheriff's office said.

The monthlong investigation, called Operation Old Spice, began in April. Investigators say they got a tip about large amounts of synthetic marijuana being produced and sold out of a home on Little Road in Valrico.

This led investigators to another address on Calhoun Road in Plant City and a storage unit on Jelane Drive in Valrico.

With help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, detectives say they had uncovered the elaborate spice manufacturing and distribution operation in East Hillsborough County.

During searches, investigators found items used to manufacture and package spice as well as ledgers and documents related to the operation.

Donya Hussein, 45, and Roger Wakim, 40, were arrested and face charges of trafficking illegal drugs of 30 kilograms or more and owning or renting a property for the purpose of trafficking illegal drugs. They have both bonded out of the Orient Road Jail.
