ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (FOX 13) - A Clearwater woman was seriously injured after a wrong-way driver crashed into her car.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said 37-year-old Jessica Murphy was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 just south of the Gandy Boulevard exit. Around 3:17 a.m., 24-year-old Priscilla Mouzon was heading southbound along the same highway in the same area.
Both drivers were in the same lane, and collided into each other, troopers said. Murphy’s 2017 Subaru Forester erupted in flames, and she was transported to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries.
Mouzon was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital with serious injuries. Troopers later arrested Murphy for DUI, reckless driving and driving in the wrong direction.
The collision closed the southbound lanes of I-275 for about an hour. Investigators said it is unknown where or how Murphy began traveling in the wrong direction.
