St. Petersburg woman found dead in creek

- Police have identified the body of a woman found in a creek as 40-year-old Melissa Higgins of St. Petersburg.

Investigators say a bicyclist discovered her body in a creek just beyond a field near 28th Street and 10th Avenue, next to Jet Jackson Recreation Center on Saturday.

Detectives estimate that Higgins' body was in the creek for more than 24 hours.

Police are calling the death suspicious. It is unclear how her body ended up in the creek, or if any cameras from nearby businesses captured any clues.

The investigation is underway.

Anyone with information should contact the St. Petersburg Police Department (727) 893-7780.
