Suspect crashes stolen car into Lakeland house

LAKELAND (FOX 13) - Polk County deputies are investigating a deadly crash in Lakeland.

Sunday evening pulled over a speeding car in the area of Kathleen Road and Duff Road.

Deputies believed the car was stolen and called for backup. When another deputy arrived, the suspect drove off at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the car on Duff Road, crossed into the path of an oncoming car, crashed into it, and then went through the yards of two homes.  The car then rolled, ejecting the suspect and came to rest against an empty house.

Deputies say the driver, who has not been identified, died at the scene. He was the only one inside the vehicle.

Detectives confirmed the car was stolen from Alachua County.

The driver in the other car was no injured.
