Suspect who stole car with baby identified

Police have identified the man they say stole a car with a baby inside Monday.

The baby and the car have since been recovered, but the man is still on the run.

St. Petersburg police are looking for 19-year-old Rashad Levon Webb.

Anyone with information about Webb or this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS or visit www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org.

The incident happened Monday afternoon. Police say Webb stole a car with an 8-month-old baby inside.

The baby was found a short time later in a parking lot, unharmed.

Around the same time the baby was found, police found the stolen car on 19th Street South.

“It looks like this guy didn’t realize that there was a baby in the backseat,” said Yolanda Fernandez of the St. Petersburg Police Department. “So when he pulled out and took the car, at some point he realized the baby was there and he decided to drop the baby off and take the car.”

St. Petersburg police were taking care of that baby until he was reunited with his mother and father. Police say the baby's father left the child in the back seat when he went back to his apartment to grab his wallet. That’s when a witness says the car was stolen.

When Webb is found, police say they will charge him with felony grand theft auto and kidnapping.
