TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Nicholas Schreiber didn't say much during his first appearance in a Tampa courtroom.
His attorney told the judge the 24-year-old engineer is working on his master's in construction management. His family is from Fort Lauderdale and he moved to Tampa two years ago.
Schreiber is accused of killing his passenger during a fiery crash over the weekend. Investigators say Schreiber was driving drunk and crashed into another car, head on, on South Westshore Boulevard Saturday night.
The driver of that car suffered minor injuries.
Schreiber's vehicle caught fire and his passenger did not make it. His attorney claims Schreiber tried to save him but wasn't able to.
Hillsborough Circuit Judge Tom Barber set bond at $200 and tacked on conditions that include no driving, no going out to bars, no drinking, and no leaving Hillsborough County.
