Teacher jailed for alleged relationship with teen

Deputies arrested a Hillsborough County middle school teacher after he allegedly had a romantic relationship with a teenage student.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jason Osborne communicated with the 14-year-old girl via an unspecified social media app.  They say he established a romantic relationship with the victim and met with her on one occasion.

“I was shocked, complete shock, “ said parents Mary Anderson.  “Never in a million years would have expected it.”

“It’s gut-wrenching, it’s frightening and unfortunate,” parent John Trimm said.

Osborne, 40, was arrested Wednesday.  Jail records show he’s charged with felony lewd or lascivious conduct and felony unlawful use of a communication device.  Osborne bonded out of jail Wednesday night.

Hillsborough County Public School officials tell FOX 13 News, Osborne has been a teacher at Ferrell Girls Preparatory Academy since 2015, teaching 7th and 8th grade science.  Counselors will be on hand Thursday for any students and staff who need to talk.
