Teacher killed in crash laid to rest

In a service Sunday, hundreds remembered 34-year-old Caroline Sine, the Pinellas County music teacher who died after a crash with a suspected drunk driver.

The service was preceded by a viewing at the Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center Sunday afternoon.

Sine died last Monday, hours after the weekend crash that injured the teacher and her boyfriend, 36-year-old Sean Hankins.

Police say 36-year-old Brice Macleod was drunk and ran a red light, hitting Sine's car. According to records, this was Macleod's second time facing such charges. Since Sine's death, Macleod now faces a DUI manslaughter charge.

Friends remembered Sine as a giving teacher who taught life lessons along with imparting her knowledge of music on her students.

"You didn't have to be a student of Caroline to learn from Caroline. She just showed people love wherever she went and she always had a smile that brightened up the room," said coworker Christa Stephens.

Hankins remains in the hospital, according to a friend. He is said to be progressing slowly toward recovery.
