Thieves use truck to steal another truck

- Police are hoping you can help them identify the thieves who used a truck to steal another truck from a Sarasota dealership.

Surveillance footage taken back on January 30 shows two suspects pulling a white flatbed truck into the Sarasota Ford dealership at 707 South Washington Avenue.

They turn off the headlights, drive up to a Ford F-450, and load the $76,000 pickup onto the flatbed before heading westbound on Payne Parkway.

Sarasota police said having video of the crime is key when solving a case like this.

"We are thankful there is video, especially in this case. It happened in the middle of the night and we are hoping somebody recognizes this flat bed truck, may have seen in around town with an F-450 on the back of it or may have seen it driving that night that the actual theft occurred," Sarasota police's Genevieve Judge explained.

Officers said they weren't sure what the suspects planned for the stolen truck. They hope someone will come forward with more information.

"We are not sure, at this point, if these two subjects are from the area or not and we are not too sure about what their plan is for the truck," Judge said. "It could be a multiple of things. They could be keeping it in the area, they could be taking it out of the area. We are not too sure and that's why want to get the word out and the video out to as many people as possible."
