Three alarm fire at Tampa apartment complex

More than a dozen families were displaced after a three-alarm fire broke out at a three story apartment building in Tampa early Friday morning.

It happened at the Waterman's Crossing Apartments just after 1:30 a.m. Friday. Firefighters said the fire started in a 3rd floor apartment and spread to other apartments through the attic.

Firefighters said it took more than 50 firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control. One resident and one firefighter were treated for injuries and several pets were killed in the fire.

"Right now, we're still figuring out where to lay our head tonight and then how we're going to get back on our feet again because we just moved into this apartment to get on our feet and start a new life," said Kayla Comacho. "Now it's completely gone."

The Red Cross was notified to help the displaced residents.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
