Three killed in single-vehicle crash

- Three people are dead and a fourth was rushed to the hospital following a severe, single-vehicle crash overnight.

Sarasota police say it happened around 3 a.m. on University Parkway somewhere between Bradenton and DeSoto roads.  That stretch of the parkway remained closed for several hours as crews investigated the crash scene, but all lanes have since reopened.

Police say Wesley McCurley was behind the wheel of the Mercury Grand Marquis.  He was killed, along with passengers Michael Duffy and Dane Custer.

The only survivor was Thomas Bentley of Sarasota, who turns 21 today.  He's at Sarasota Memorial Hospital but police say he is expected to survive.

Officials are still investigating but said they suspect speed was a factor in the crash.
