Toddler dies after being hit by car

- Clearwater police say a little boy who was struck by a vehicle late Wednesday night has died.

It happened on North Betty Lane and Idlewild Drive shortly after 9 p.m. Police say the family had just pulled into the driveway after having dinner and the 20-month-old boy's father went to unlock the door while the mother got the boy out of his car seat.

When the mother reached back inside the vehicle to get  the boy's drink, police say the child ran into the street and was struck by Ford Explorer. The woman driving the SUV told police she didn't see the child until it was too late.

The toddler was taken to Morton Plant Hospital where he later died. He was identified as Maddux Silva.
