Troopers search for driver in hit and run

A driver is in critical condition after a hit and run in Pinellas County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a gold Lexus was driving southbound 49th St. when it slammed into a Red Hyundai Accent as it was using the left turn lane.

Both cars were seen on surveillance video spinning around after the crash, and the Hyundai smashed into a utility pole.

The Lexus, which had heavy damage to its front end, was seen on surveillance video leaving the scene of the crash.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to Bayfront hospital in critical condition.

Troopers say the driver that fled was described as an African American male in a 2002-2006 Model 300 Lexus. Anyone with information about the driver or who sees the vehicle with this front end damage should call FHP by dialing *FHP or 813-558-1800, or contact Crime Stoppers at 800-873-8477.
