Firefighters have their hands full battling a smoky blaze at a warehouse in northwestern Hillsborough County.

The view from SkyFOX shows black smoke billowing from the building on Barry Road in the Town 'n Country area. Firefighters describe it as a "mixed-use warehouse" containing janitorial products, pet flea products and other chemicals.

The fire has been upgraded to two alarms by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.  They report "several small explosions" have been heard from inside the building, so they are in a defensive posture.

Firefighters also say one of the warehouse tenants kept animals in the building, including a monkey, and they are concerned about their condition.

Smoke is wafting over the nearby Veterans Expressway, forcing intermittent lane closures.  Northbound traffic in particular is backed up.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.

No injuries have been reported.
